Announcement for Cultural Extravaganza 2024: Celebrating Local Chinese Culture in Singapore
On the morning of May 8, 2024, the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre SCCC honored its distinguished recipients at the opening ceremony of this year's Cultural Extravaganza festival.
The event was distinguished by the presence of our esteemed guest-of-honor Ms Low Yen Ling, Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Trade and Industry, who prsed SCCC for their remarkable contributions.
Ms Low personally presented the Singapore Chinese Cultural Contribution Award SCCCA to this year's recipients: Mdm Yan Choong Lian from Dance Ensemble Singapore DES, an individual category winner, and Nine Years Theatre, a group category recipient. Ms Yan has been acclmed for her continuous exploration of dance innovation while preserving Singapore’s diverse cultural heritage. Nine Years Theatre, a prominent presence in Singapore's Mandarin theater sector, is celebrated for its accessible and culturally rich productions that resonate across all audience backgrounds.
The gathering comprised over two hundred representatives from the local Chinese arts and cultural community enjoyed an opening performance by Nam Hwa Opera who were recognized with the SCCCA award in 2023.
This year's Cultural Extravaganza theme Re-presenting Our SINGAPO人 Treasures showcases original works and innovative reinterpretations through theatre performances, exhibitions, and concerts from talented artists and arts groups starting May 8th till June 30th.
Nominations for the SCCCA award for next year are now open until September 30, 2024, at 5 pm. The for individual and organization categories can be found on our SCCCA website.
