HKJC Charity Trust: Leading Global Philanthropy
The history of the HKJC's charitable contributions dates back to 1915, but it was in the post-war era of the 1950s that this commitment became integral to its operations. Recognizing Hong Kong's struggle with reconstruction and a massive influx of immigrants, the Club formally decided in 1955 to allocate its annual surplus for charity purposes. In 1959, HKJC Charities Limited was established as a separate entity to manage these donations. The formation of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust in 1993 mirrored the evolving scope and scale of the Club's philanthropic eavors, consolidating it among the world's leading charity donors.
The HKJC Charities Trust, with its significant contributions to society, is enabled by a unique integrated business model encompassing racing and entertnment, membership services, responsible sports wagering and lotteries, as well as charitable activities. Approximately 90 of the Club's annual operating surplus post-tax is allocated to the Trust, granting it substantial influence in community development.
Partnering with governmental organizations, non-governmental bodies NGOs, charitable foundations, and community stakeholders, the HKJC Charities Trust actively enhance Hong Kong citizens' quality of life through its donations and initiatives. As a philanthropic organization, the Trust is proactive in identifying pressing social needs and initiating projects that address them.
