Square Dancing Tips
For successful and enjoyable square dancing, familiarity with the calls is essential, along with teamwork among all eight dancers in the square. We highly recomm these Square Dance Tips prepared by El Camino Reelers for both novice and experienced dancers.
A helpful resource for new dancers is A Kid's and Beginner’s Guide to Square Dancing, kindly shared by Lindsie. This guide provides valuable information suitable for learners of all ages.
For beginners, the key to mastering the calls lies in practice-often referred to as “floor time.” We encourage students taking classes with the Rosetown Ramblers to att our monthly dances. Our caller will be informed which calls you have learned, and we'll provide at least one student tip focusing on just those calls.
Many new dancers find it beneficial to review the calls outside of class. There are numerous square dance resources avlable online for this purpose:
opensquares.de: A GermanEnglish website featuring written descriptions in English along with animated visual ds.
saddlebrookesquares.com: This site includes vocal descriptions and video demonstrations of actual dancers performing each call.
tamtwirlers.org: Defines each call with accompanying animations to illustrate its execution. Additionally, there's an app avlable for mobile devices.
Enjoy your square dancing journey!
